Thanks to all of you who have already registered for our upcoming event on May 22nd at the Detroit Athletic Club. We regret to inform you that Fr. Howard Gray, SJ, who was scheduled to speak at the event, passed away on May 7th. You can read his obituary here. He was a great inspiration to all who knew him and benefited from his wealth of knowledge in Ignatian spirituality which he so gladly shared with others. He will be missed.
We are now blessed to have Fr. George Winzenburg, SJ, President of the Red Cloud Indian School join us on May 22nd.
Fr. Winzenburg has been president of Red Cloud Indian School and an ex officio member of the Board of Directors since 2010. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, a Master’s degree in Counselor Education from Boston University, and a Master’s degree in Divinity from Weston School of Theology in Cambridge, MA.
Topic: "Composition of Place: People On The Margins"
St. Ignatius asked us to begin our prayer with composition of place, such as placing ourselves with Jesus as he mingled with people living on the margins. Enter the world of Native Americans who are largely invisible to us. The Society of Jesus and its partners in ministry have been educating and pastoring Oglala Lakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota since the 1880s.
